LEAD THE WAY
The world is a very different place from the one in which many of us grew up, and the way in which we live our lives today has found many of us hitting a wall or burning out. The world is changing so fast, and we keep speeding up to keep pace with it, believing the more we work, the more we’ll get done. Disrupted by new data streams, businesses and organizations measure everything, ensuring we become lost in numbers and logic. Systems that used to enhance our lives have become disconnected from the very people they were meant to connect. Old systems from governance to healthcare and education are falling apart, and the new has not yet emerged. We get, stuck in our old ways of doing things, even when they’re clearly not working. The noise of the external world is muting the sound of the internal world, and our intuition is paying the price.
The challenges we face today are both old and new: the polarization of wealth, access to education, jobs and healthcare, environmental issues, terrorism and war have been around for a long time. What’s new is that technology is exacerbating these issues at warp speed and creating new issues we can’t predict. There is no way that old thinking is going to be up to these challenges. We need a whole new approach to our leadership, which is not narrow in focus, but rather broad, open and wisely intuitive.
There is another way. The Institute for Zen Leadership equips leaders with the physical tools of Zen training that they can develop a felt sense of connectedness to the bigger picture, seize the opportunities in challenges, and serve people, not as other-than-themselves, but as extensions of a Self without limits. IZL helps leaders develop the courage, resilience and groundedness, find their voice, master energy, and remove fear. What mindfulness does for self-awareness, the physicality of Zen does for self-actualization by bringing desired futures into the actual present through oneself.
