Michael Hodge began his Zen training in 2003 under the instruction of Gordon Greene Roshi at Daihonzan Chozen-ji in Honolulu, Hawaii. There he underwent extensive martial arts training in Kendo and Hojo, as well as fine arts training in Shodo and Shakuhachi. In 2006 he helped break ground for the Spring Green Dojo in Wisconsin and has been an integral part of the design and construction of many of the buildings onsite.
Michael holds a Doctorate of Architecture from the University of Hawaii at Manoa where his research focused on the combination of architecture and Zen training, including the engagement of the human body in the design process. Since finishing school in Hawaii, he has focused on design, development, and strategy. He worked for several years in China, gaining leadership experience as the Associate Director for Tianhua Architecture and Planning Ltd., and also founded the Shanghai Zen Dojo. He co-founded an entrepreneurial strategic design firm, and has been active developing Zen training in the Madison, Wisconsin area.
